Eye on Nature trip

Earlier in the term, Room 12 was lucky enough to be invited to attend the Eye on Nature day held at the Botanical Gardens. This yearly event is hosted by the Manukau Beuatifucation Charitable Trust. The trust generously pays for 1500 students to attend this event over 3 days.

We attended last Wednesday, and it was fantastic. Students got the opportunity to participate in a wide range of activities including; a bee maze, where they had to race to find facts about bees; a talk from local bee lady, Sara; a lesson on recycling and all the different ways we can help reduce what ends up in the land fill; challenges to identify from which plants common grocery items come; and making newspaper pots and planting vegetable seedlings and seeds.

At morning tea the students also got to make buzzy bee hats and have an iceblock, which was much appreciated as it was such a hot day.

Just before getting back on the bus to come back to school, we also got the chance to admire all of the planter boxes entered by local schools into the Planter Box competition. I know that there were a number of students that would be keen to enter this next year... Keep your eyes peeled for entry details.

Space Science

Learning about space with Mr.Munro

Last week we did Science with Mr.Munro. Our topic was SPACE! We learnt all sorts of cool things. We learnt about the sun, planets, stars, astronauts and Earth. There were lots of tasks. One was to fill in the blanks about the planets atmospheres, temperature  and wind. On one you had to write the correct fact under the picture of a planet. We also had to write a story about a day without gravity.

It was really awesome and funny because Mr Munro kept calling me a gas planet. We did a quiz to see our knowledge in space. Some people got all 15 questions correct and some people only got 11 but thats good enough.

Once your background was done your flower was*decapitated*(Cut into quaters) Then Finally when everyone was done, we got into a circle, and when Miss Fothigill said go we grabbed one quater from some ones flower. PE WITH MR FOURIE

  PE WITH MR FOURIE

This week we did PE with mr Fourie. For the PE we practiced hockey. We had to practice with a puck or a tennis ball. The tennis ball was easier because it rolled. We did two tasks. One was we had to dribble through the cones. The last task was... one of your team mates had to go on the other end of the cones, then the other player had to pass the puck to the his/her team mate. Then the player that passed the puck chasd it. The other team mate smashed the puck to the next person in line. He/she would hand over the court hockey stick to the next player in line. When We were finished our rotation, there was still more time so we made two teams, and  had to try hit the cone with the puck. You got one point if you hit the cone. For two points you had to make the cone fall over. In the end it was a tie:3-3.
